Yellowstone Women's Music Collective Songwriter Showcase

More about The Yellowstone Women's Music Collective: The Yellowstone Women’s Music Collective is a group founded in 2023, centered around the goal of connecting, supporting, and inspiring women in music through collaboration, education, and visibility in the community. With over 60 members, this group showcases incredible talent found within the Montana music scene. You can learn more by emailing the group at yellowstonewmc@gmail.com, or by visiting @ywmc_montana on Instagram. More about Martha Scanlan: Martha Scanlan first gained national attention with the innovative old-time stringband Reeltime Travelers on TBone Burnett's soundtrack for Cold Mountain. Her first solo album, The West Was Burning, featuring Dirk Powell, Amy and Levon Helm, was heralded as an instant classic, one of those rare albums that defies genre and generation. Since then she has written and recorded three more iconic albums, headlined festivals across the US and Europe, and collaborated and shared the stage with a variety of roots musicians ranging from Alison Krauss, Emmy Lou Harris and Ralph Stanley to Black Prairie and Watchhouse. Her song Little Bird Of Heaven was the centerpiece of celebrated American author Joyce Carol Oates novel by the same name. While currents of deep Appalachian mountain valleys and vast Montana landscapes wind through Martha's songs, it's really the accessibility and intimacy that defines them, and what has earned her a loyal cult following worldwide. Celebrated roots musician and producer Dirk Powell writes, "Martha feels the natural world, including that of human relations, to such an extent that the stories transcend themselves." She currently tours with longtime music collaborator and producer Jon Neufeld. Their first collaborative project Last Stars First Light was listed among the top ten albums of 2020 by No Depression magazine. Save It For Later, a collection of covers, was released in 2024 on Jealous Butcher Records. More about Lena Marie Schiffer: Lena Marie Schiffer is a folk singer and songwriter based in Livingston, Montana. After spending ten years touring nationally with the band, Laney Lou and the Bird Dogs, she has since embarked on a solo career, performing under her own name and continuing to make her mark in the music industry. Lena’s ability to relate to others drives her passion for songwriting and sharing her music. She writes deeply personal lyrics that reflect both her own experiences and her insightful observations of the world, forging a strong connection with her audience wherever she performs. The influence of icons like Joni Mitchell, Emmylou Harris, and Alison Krauss can also be heard in her pure, soaring vocals and vulnerable songwriting style. More about Abby Webster: Abby Webster, a singer-songwriter based in Livingston, Montana, weaves a tapestry of musical genres that reflect her eclectic spirit. Webster’s music connects with listener’s on a profoundly relatable level, oscillating between whimsical, off-beat humor and specific, visceral experiences. Often telling a story about her personal life, Webster’s songwriting is steeped in a type of honesty and humility that truly sets her apart as an artist.
